When the Crisis is Addiction: DBT Skills for Managing Addictions

About this course

Clients struggling with emotional regulation can often engage in addictive behaviors. This self-paced course will present DBT skills for managing addictive behaviors as well as provide a format for assisting clients with creating a plan for dialectical abstinence as well as creating a harm reduction plan. We will discuss what clinicians need to know about using the distress tolerance skills of DBT targeted toward assisting clients with building a life that reinforces abstinence and setting themselves up for success in case slips occur.

This course is designed for professional counselors, school counselors, social workers, marital and family therapists, psychologists, addiction counselors, case managers, and other health care professionals.

  • Suzette Bray

    Suzette Bray, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and Arizona with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. Suzette is the author author of You and Your Emotions, DBT Explained and The Borderline Personality Disorder Workbook. Suzette owned and operated a comprehensive DBT program for adolescents and adults for 12 years and has trained and supervised many clinicians in this modality. She provides training and consultation to therapists who want to increase their ability to help their clients effectively regulate emotions.
